Is the Yamaha Ténéré 700 Really So Special?

Too portly, too big, too gimmicky, too…well, everything. Adventure bikes have gotten out of hand. Yamaha wants to change that by offering something just right - nothing more, nothing less.

  • Did you ever sell your GS sir? I'm in love with my R1200GSA, though I've had to lay it on it's side, controlled, a few times. Freakin' heavy hunk o' metal.

  • Yamaha should give away that T7 for you simply because of the review. This review will sold a lot of that Ténéré.

  • What do you think of the Honda Transalp 650 with the rally conversion? I'm thinking of doing that

    DylanRabbitDylanRabbitDay ago
  • If it it wasn't so fugly in comparison, and becauses he really likes the motorn & it's rep, I'm gleaning he's ok with KTM 790. But the T7 is so much better looking and the 790 motor, no real rep yet.

  • Favorite youtube channel, just want to say that I dont really think this bike can do anymore than my dr650 that I have in supermoto form. Plus I get the added street performance and better turn-in. Would love to try it out though. Great bike but I'd have to ride it for my opinion to change. I would have definetly made it up that hill that you were meer inches from climbing although , i think that was a cleverly planned drop at the top. It's all about the rider folks. Buying this bike wont make you any better than any other bike without the shnazzy engine or drivetrain figuration.

  • Why would a higher countershaft sharpen the swing arm angle? Makes no sense. What you're demonstrating is the line between the rear axle, and instant center (pivot point for the swing arm). A lower countershaft would create more anti-squat, because the chain tension would create more torque between the rear axle, and swing arm pivot.

    • @FortNine The low seat option is news to me. Thank you so much for the information. Lowering links will be a must. A Performance decrease is better than not being able to ride one at all.

      Moto migosMoto migos12 hours ago
    • Yamaha sells a low seat option, and there are suspension-lowering linkages available as well. Of course you're sacrificing some performance there. ~RF9

  • Watching FT vids is becoming harder and harder. Is a decision that has to take some consideration. Do i need this kind of commitment right now? do I have the time? attention span? brain power? You already know you have to hit the like button, read a few comments and perhaps leave one yourself praising the quality of the vid. And then think about everything you just learned in a 8 min vid.

  • What Yamaha did for dual sports with the WR250R; they just did for middle weight adventure bikes with the T7. Bulletproof engine; off-road capability; a bit of a premium in price; and a whole lot of smiles and fun times. I know I will get one at one point. For now as I don’t have the freedom for longer and further rides; the WR is my perfect bike. Ryan, you need to do a video on the WR250R like you did for the KLR650!

  • Ryan , could you maybe do a video on enduro/dual sport storage options ? I want to get a tool kit and some other odds and ends on my EXC450 but I cant seem to find any options that dont look tacky. If possible it would be nice to get something almost invisible. If you'd rather not make a video for it , do you have any ideas ? Love the vids man keep em up 🤘

  • All right, so - I just watched again two of the very best cinematographic motorcycling pieces of youtubing ever including your very own review of the Africa Twin, which you end up saying it sucks on pavement but there is just no competition on the dirt. Now with the advent of the Tenere 700 I wold _really_ love if you could give us your opinion on how they compare, on the road, on the twisties, on the dirt, in the city... And if you could make it as wonderful to watch as your aforementioned AT review (or your Versys X300 review, the other one I just watched _again_) I would totally venerate you. For those of you who understand French there are two French guys who started a trip from the North Cape, northernmost point in Europe, all the way to Cape Town, South Africa on two Tenere700 to rasie $$ for heart surgery on African kids - they had to put it on pause about to reach Congo due to Covid but they did publish nine episodes of their trip, with real adventure, armed checkpoints, good humor, even philosophy and of course landscapes and geography - well worth watching. It's (almost) all in French but I believe someone is working on English subtitles. Ep.1: Ep.2: Ep.3: Ep.4: Ep.5: Ep.6: Ep.7:

  • Great video. Awesome editing and shooting! I was looking at one of these in Australia but had to have a reality check on how often I was going to go off road and if I wanted to spend the extra 6 thousand dollars over a V-Strom 650XT which suits me more as I commute everyday to work and having the 19" on the front over the 21" on the T700 made it fantastic for the twisties. Who knows maybe I'll test ride a T700 next year and change over, but I doubt it :)
