  • Hi Paul, RGB question here. I'm looking at building in the Phanteks P500A DGRB. It will be an air cooled system so the case lighting and fans will all be easy with the integrated rgb controller. My question is how do I make my keyboard and mouse match it? I'm open to replacing my mouse and keyboard set up if it will help but I'm not sure where to start. Would I be better off using a different case and a software solution like i-Cue to control everything and just get all Corsair stuff?

  • Hi Paul, I've started editing videos and use DaVinci Resolve. When I "Generate Optimized Media" it looks like my bottleneck is my NVMe SSD (Intel 660p). While doing the "optimize-thing" the control panel says that the Drive is operating at 100% & caps-out at 100 MB/s "Disk Transfer Rate". Is this some kind of buffer-cap on the 660p? Are there NVMe's (Gen 3) that can sustain high Read/Write speeds on large files? (so that I can bottleneck some other part of the PC) Thanks!

  • Paul, here is a question for the Next Probing Paul: My daughter is doing her very first PC build. More than half of the parts are new: Motherboard, PCU, RAM, Case, NVMe M.2 drive, and an IFIXIT toolkit. She's going to be gutting the following items from her existing battle rig: GPU, PSU, RGB Fans, and the mechanical HDDs (two). We're going to transfer the OS license to the new machine. Where as Microsoft is concerned, is this the same "dwarven battle axe" as she started out with?

    Jack LindeJack Linde2 days ago
    • In case you're curious, here is a list of the parts we picked up for her so far. I'm holding off until around December to get her a new video card. I want to see what prices and options look like then. Also, I'm going to get her an AIO cooler when money permits. (Probably the Corsair h100 platinum to go with the corsair case and fans she already has.) pcpartpicker.com/list/zvbc3t

  • Looking to put together my first new computer in many years around the holidays. I would appreciate some advice on how to tune it for low power / efficiency. (Undervolting/de-clocking?/anything else that will help it use less electricity) but then can be easily turned back up to full fat when needed on the rare occasion I do something demanding.

CPUID HWMonitor routinely reports that my Ryzen 7 2700 is boosting on all cores to 4.9 and 5.2 GHz while gaming. I have it OC'd to 4.0 GHz @ 1.35 V on an X370 mobo, and I'm using the stock Wraith Prism cooler. Is this a problem with HWMonitor, the motherboard, ect, or did I win the silicon lottery? • Will there be any additional options as far as PSU/GPU connectivity? As of now I’ve only heard of adapter that convert 2 8 pins to 1 12 pin, which is problematic for me considering my PSU only has 1 8 pin despite having more than enough overhead to support a 3070. Will there be alternative options? Such as a 6 + 8 pin to a 12??

  • Thank you for this video, i always watch your channel to help myself decide when making a purchase. One question i have, and also maybe someone in the comment section has a similar system. My model is Dell Desktop XPS 8930, and it's a very poorly ventilated case. A lot of people recommended installing additional fans to help with overheating, but i'm not tech savvy enough to do that. So i'm hoping to pick a 3080 card that can provide adequate cooling on its own....my question is, for not so good ventilated case which edition of 3080 should i get? I was thinking of the founder's edition but my worry is that the top side exhaust fan will be obstructed by the swing out psu of my case which obviously will limit air circulation. Any advice???

  • I also got a question! But you may only test it if you got a 3080 card yourself. The 2080ti was already using on 4K/UHD resolution at least around ~7-8 gb V-ram minimum, some games even more- especially on DX12 and some few games could eb even set up to 16gbs (like Red dead redempotion). Are the supposed super fast GDDR6 "X" will be really enough? (I personally doubt that and believe this will cause fps drops or in general less fps if constandy filled up.)

  • I just set up an HDMI switcher the other day and the soundbar I am using doesn't support 4k pass through for HDMI. What I ended up doing was going directly from the switcher (which I found one that specifically supports HDR 10 and 4k60 passthrough) to my TV/Monitor/Capture card and from the TV I have an optical cable that goes to my soundbar. I think it works well enough for an HTPC.

  • To add on to what you mentioned in regards to Windows Shutdown and Restart (around 14:00); if someone wants to fully shutdown their computer and do a complete flush I recommend making a batch file that you can click. I have one on my desktop since I personally like fully shutting down my computer when I turn it off rather than it saving my open windows and tasks. Just type in: "shutdown /s /f /t 0" into a notepad document or whatever and save it as a batch file.

  • Aggressive pricing? What the hell are people talking about, or does everyone have short memories and forget pre-Turing pricing? 2018 Turing Pricing at Announcement: -2070 -> starting at $499 -2080 -> starting at $699 -2080 Ti -> starting at $999 (lol - reality $1200) Everyone decries the pricing creep up a tier accross the stack. 2020 Ampere Pricing Announcement: -3070 -> starting at $499 -3080 -> starting at $699 -3090 -> starting at $1499 Suddenly this is called "aggressive pricing"? I don't get it. It's literally the exact pricing as Turing with an INCREASE for the 2080 Ti replacement (3090). Pascal Pricing Announcement: -1070 -> starting at $379 -1080 -> starting at $599 -1080 Ti -> starting at $699 Maxwell Pricing Announcement: -970 -> starting at $329 -980 -> starting at $549 -980 Ti -> starting at $649 Also, 3090 is clearly the 3080 Ti rebranded as a 3090 so that you didn't know they actually increased it by $300. We know it can't possibly be the actual replacement for the RTX Titan because it is not fully unlocked. That card will come later. Also if we do see a 3080 Super or Ti model it will just be the 3080 with 20GB VRAM. We may finally have a worthy performance successor for Pascal, but the pricing is hardly "aggressive". It's the same high Turing prices! I suppose people are praising the fact it didn't go up, but it certainly didn't go down.

  • Thanks for the video. The 2080TI is on a reference board. The 3090 is on a custom board. There is a 3090 reference design that Nvidia is not using. In order to cool the 3090 they had to go custom. When AMD made the R9 280 / 280X / 290 / and 290X they where all hot and loud on reference boards not custom. Do not give props to Nvidia for the 30xx gen is not what it seems. 3090 is not a Titan, it is Titan like. So the 3090 is a Ti class card. Are we getting good performance yes, but they will be Hot. Will Nvidia get bad press for being hot, most likely not. I have an R9 280X that puts out 250 watts of heat, and with AC set to 19C my corner of the room goes to 22 -24C. Want to see what people will say about Nvidia with even more heat.

I decided to skip the RTX 2000 series after they were announced since the price to performance increase over the 1070 wasn't justifiable. • Why build hot and loud mini ITX with these new cards... You should void your warranty by doing so. It's the price you literally pay for early adopting the power-hungry new tech. Think of me when your card burns up or you're slaving over maintenance while I'm gaming

  • Thanks for the content, and keep it up! Especially excited as both main companies release GPUs in the near future :-) My main question is one a lot of people probably don’t care about, but I was curious for your advice on how to clean (both sides of) tempered glass case panels. Water and even glass cleaners can leave small amounts of streaks/residue, but I’ve got to get rid of that slow dust buildup. Of course, I don’t want anything static related near components… But need something to make my cube shine! She’s too pretty to leave dust accumulating.

  • Maybe a stupid question but would a CPU or ram purchased from the US work in a motherboard from the UK/EU? I know the wall power is different but surely psu power is the same everywhere? 850w is 850w no matter where you plug it in.

  • AMD has been playing the numbers game for years, higher mhz, more cores, etc. Some time ago they built a batch of quad core CPU's with one faulty core. Instead of scrapping the project, they decided to sell it to the public as a TRI Core CPU. This is low class. Intel will always be the best.

  • The fear of turning on and off the computer came from early hard drives. The frequent access of that data increased the chance of various negative things happening to those critical files. The quality of drives are significantly more reliable today and it's not a concern anymore. Now the argument is around not shutting down and causing extra wear on the drive from the platters spinning so much more.

  • Don't think I'll be going for the 3080 - the power draw means this thing is going to get toasty and possibly noisy.

  • Will the triple pci slot help with the need of card sag or will 3090 users still have to add a support

  • Paul, would you recommend buying a 4k 144hz IPS monitor like the 27GN950 for the future-proofing with an rtx3080, which can hopefully run 4k at around 100+ fps. Which is a high upfront expense but wouldn't need upgrading until 8k gaming is a thing in 5/10 years. Or buy a "cheaper" QHD 144hz IPS monitor like the 27GN850? I really can't decide.

  • Would it possibly be better to Sli 2 3080’s vs having one 3090?

  • Love the Probing Paul videos! Kind of weird thing where i live, though. 3070 Founders Edition is listed on the Nvidia site for the same price as the absolute cheapest AiB 3070 in retail stores. If that will be the case, i might be tempted to get Founders Edition tbh. Tiny Zotac 3070 model vs. Founders Edition. Only issue i have with the founders cards are beautiful cards coming with an ugly adapter. Kinda baffles me that they would put so much effort into the card and add what looks like a $2 adapter with it. I know, i know, function over form, but the cards looks like works of art and the adapter looks like a cheap fan splitter

    • Yup...it will become the norm in the next couple months. Just 12 months ago, double ads was not even a thing. You would never see 2 back to back ads in early 2019.

  • Aggressive pricing? It's still very expensive, and the $500, $700 and $1400 bucks is just your imagination, no AIB partner will sell it that cheap thanks to 320-350W....

  • Hey Paul, I was wondering if you were aware of Moore's Law is Dead's expose about Nvidia's 3000 series release and if/how it affects how you approach reviews? How do you balance potentially being manipulated by the big tech firms versus still trying to provide an accurate review? I don't imagine it's an easy line to walk so I was wondering how you guys handle it and if, while it wouldn't affect the actual performance of the card, if it affects how you look at it overall as something you can recommend?
